The Boston Terrier, also known as “The American Gentleman” because of its beautiful tuxedo-like markings, is a very affectionate breed that would complement any adopting family. A small and gentle puppy, the Boston Terrier would be a bright and cheerful family companion. It is well suited for families with children because of its playful and energetic nature. The Boston Terrier is a lover, not a fighter.

In 1889, the lovable dog with the round head and screw-like tail received its official name of Boston Terrier. Other names before this official title were Bullet Head and Bull Terrier. Believe it or not, the Boston Terrier is rumored to descend from a dog named Judge, who was most likely a mix between a Bulldog and the white English Terrier. The Boston terrier was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1893.
The Boston Terrier can easily adapt to most environments, but keep in mind that they are sensitive to extreme temperatures. The Terrier’s most common personality traits of gentle sweetness and good sense are suitable for homes but ideal for apartment living. They are definitely an indoor dog and should never be housed outside.
The Boston Terrier is a lively dog. He does not have excessive exercise requirements. However, a daily walk is recommended for a healthy pet lifestyle. For the Terrier, meeting a new buddy along the way will be easy since this breed is very dog friendly.
Even though this cute little wide-eyed puppy wouldn’t hurt a fly it proudly displays a very lean, compact, muscular body. Their fur is short and very soft and may come in any combination of white, brown, grey, or black.
At Temecula Puppies we initiate basic potty training and socialization. Please remember that only time, love, and patience is what truly trains a puppy to be obedient. Boston Terriers are sensitive to tone of voice, so punishment can make them shut down. Any additional training should be low-key and motivational. The Terrier’s prevailing facial expression of alertness indicates a high level of intelligence so training should be relatively frustration free.
Boston Terriers are low maintenance. With minimal shedding and basic grooming needed once in a while, this puppy is perfect for owners who do not want the fuss of dog hair in their cars and homes.
The care of this breed is basic. Weekly cleaning, trimming the toenails every few weeks, and brushing the teeth frequently for a bright “smile” will suffice. Also, a proper diet will ensure a healthy and long life. The Boston Terrier puppy with proper care has an average life span exceeding 16 years.
At Temecula Puppies, our Boston Terriers come with their first set of puppy vaccines, deworming, and health checks. Our breeders are required to have regular vet records on the breeding parents and puppies. Every puppy has a vet exam within the first week after adoption.
